What I so often hear is how good my Dutch is. I passed my government exam for Dutch as a second language at level B2 in 2021 and I have only improved since. People are often surprised to hear that I’m not Dutch (at least until I end up making a mistake). I like to joke that my secret is that no one understands my English, but the truth is that I have a passion for language, and a lay interest in linguistics.
That English is my mother tongue confers an advantage to me in translating from Dutch to English. I sit between the first and second halves of my master’s degree in philosophy, a subject in which a very complex and specialised yet flexible vocabulary is used, so my intellectual level befits this and my vocabulary is very broad. I also write in my free time. I’ve been busy with a book about cognates between English and Dutch for some years now. I’ve been translating for Horeca United since early 2023: promotional material, articles, informal legal advice (although I’m not a chartered (“beëdigd”) translator), and so forth. I wrote this website in Dutch before translating it into English!
I am available for translating promotional material, articles, stories, and things of that ilk from Dutch into English (or vice versa for shorter texts), or for consultation on your own translation (let’s say you’re setting up a new company and you want an English name, or you want to check the grammar of your English-language article). Pricing
The average price on the translation market is between €0.10 per word (mostly students who translate on the side) and €0.14 (translators with years’ experience), or more for chartered translators. My pricing is thus:
≤250 words | €30 incl. VAT |
>250 words | €0,12 per word incl. VAT |
So it’s already clear how much exactly it’d cost, but in any case, don’t hesitate to make contact for a quote!
